Tree service in Stone Mountain, GA

We remove, trim and clean up trees across Stone Mountain, from the historic village on Main Street to the neighborhoods off Memorial Drive, Rockbridge Road and Hairston Road. Call or text (678) 491-1254 for a free written estimate. We answer any hour after storms.

A Stone Mountain address can be inside the city, in unincorporated DeKalb, or on the Gwinnett side, and each has its own tree rules. We'll help you figure out which applies before we quote.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree here?

Usually no permit for five or fewer ordinary trees. The rules depend on where your home is.

  • City of Stone Mountain: on a developed single-family lot, a homeowner can remove up to five non-specimen trees per calendar year without a permit. Removing a specimen tree needs a permit with a written reason from an ISA-certified arborist or registered land surveyor (City of Stone Mountain). Call City Hall at 770-498-8984 to check whether a tree is a specimen.
  • Unincorporated DeKalb: up to five healthy, non-specimen trees per calendar year need no notice. Specimen trees (oaks, poplars and pines 30 inches across or more, dogwoods and redbuds 10 inches or more) need a permit. Dead, diseased or hazardous trees documented by a certified arborist or forester can come down any time (DeKalb County).
  • Unincorporated Gwinnett: no permit for trees on your occupied lot unless the tree is in a zoning or stream buffer, open space, a tree save area, or is a street tree. You must keep at least two live trees on the lot (Gwinnett County).
  • Streams: trees within the 75-foot stream buffer have their own rules in both counties.

Trees, storms and power lines in this area

Storms drop trees around Stone Mountain. Overnight storms on July 28 into July 29, 2026, sent a tree onto a Stone Mountain woman's car and totaled it, while DeKalb crews cleared trees and power lines across the county (Atlanta News First). A tree leaning over the driveway or a dead limb above where you park is worth a look before the next one.

Watch your pines. Georgia logged more than 1,600 southern pine beetle spots in 2024, up from 273 the year before (UGA Bugwood Center). Needles browning from the top down and small lumps of sap on the bark are the signs. Beetle-killed pines dry out and get brittle fast, so they should come down soon.

Georgia Power serves most of the Stone Mountain area. If a tree is on a line, call your power company first and stay well away from it.

Questions

Common questions.

Don't see yours? Call or text (678) 491-1254.

Do you do emergency tree removal in Stone Mountain?

Yes. Call (678) 491-1254 any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays. If a tree is on your house, car or driveway, we'll tell you on the phone how soon we can get there and what to do until we arrive. If the tree is touching a power line, call your power company first.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Stone Mountain?

Usually not for five or fewer ordinary trees a year, inside the city or in unincorporated DeKalb. Specimen trees need a permit. On the Gwinnett side, you need one only for trees in buffers, tree save areas or street trees.

Can I remove a dead tree without a permit?

In unincorporated DeKalb, yes, if a certified arborist or forester documents that it's dead, diseased or hazardous. Inside the city, a hazardous specimen tree still needs the city's tree permit.

Can you take down a tree that's leaning over my house?

Yes. Our climber takes it down from the top in pieces and lowers each one with ropes, so nothing lands on the roof.

Who do I call about a tree on a power line?

Georgia Power serves most of Stone Mountain. Call your power company first and stay away from the line.
